HOW TO GET READY
FOR THE SLEEP AWAY EXPERIENCIE

1. Get Excited Together

The camp experience begins at home! Show your child how excited you are for them. Your enthusiasm will help them feel confident and ready for this new adventure.

2. Set Clear Expectations
Talk openly about how long they’ll be at camp. Use a calendar to count down the days and build anticipation. Keeping the message consistent helps your child feel secure and prepared.
3. Encourage Commitment
Avoid saying things like “you can come home if you don’t like it.” Instead, let them know you believe in them and are proud they’re trying something new—it’s a big step, and they can do it!
4. Foster Trust and Independence
Remind your camper that it’s okay to feel a little nervous—it means they’re growing! Camp is all about learning, making friends, and becoming more independent in a fun and supportive setting.
5. Reach Out & Get a Sneak Peek
Still have questions? Give us a call—our head staff is here to help guide you. And be sure to check out our Instagram and TikTok for real glimpses into camp life and what your child can look forward to!

FIRST TIME CAMPERS

Communication Is Always Open
(Even Without Electronics!)

While campers unplug from personal electronics to fully engage in the experience, you can always reach out to the Camp Director or Head Staff at any time. We’re here for you every step of the way!

Stay Connected Through Waldo

We use Waldo, our photo platform, to upload daily pictures from camp life. With optional face-recognition technology, you’ll get notified when your camper appears—so you can follow the magic and smile right along with them.

Remember the “Why”

Camp is more than just fun—it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience filled with growth, independence, life skills, and memories they’ll carry forever. It’s natural to miss them, but also wonderful to celebrate what they’re gaining.

You’re Part of the Journey Too

Make sure to take part in our special moments by participating during your child’s stay.

Special Moments of connection

  • Call-Home Day: Campers get to call home once each week—something both parents and kids look forward to.
  • Letter to Camper Day: On Check-In Day, you’ll have the chance to write or bring in a letter or card that will be delivered later during camp—a sweet surprise that goes a long way! One letter is given per session, so make sure to write enough letters for your child’s stay.

FOOD AND ALLERGIES

At Camp Lingua, our camp community is served three well-balanced, kid-friendly meals each day, with fruit, yogurts, cheese sticks, and more available as snacks throughout the day in the Dining Hall.

We accommodate most food allergies and always do our best to provide safe and delicious alternatives when needed. While we do not customize meals based on general food preferences, we offer a variety of options including family-style meals, cookouts, buffets, and a full salad and sandwich bar to meet a range of tastes.

Parents are welcome to share any food preferences or dietary needs ahead of time. Make sure to note any special requests in the camper’s medical form in the parent portal. By sending your child to camp, you are confirming that your child has basic knowledge of their dietary needs and can make informed food choices while at camp.
