About our Language Immersion Summer Camp 2012
Our language immersion camp provides campers with the best of two worlds: Critical Thinking and Language Skills. Using the Natural Approach, this engaging program encourages creative thinking for Campers at all language levels. An open-ended multi-sensory approach stimulates language and cooperative learning.
Benefits
Fastest way of advancing in thinking and language skills.
Accelerated training techniques that produce fast results; personalized attention.
Active participation.
We will teach your child how to learn, how to keep his/her language skills, and how to use them in real life. Our experienced staff members are culturally sensitive and trained in the LINGUA Methodology. We can follow-up with our Year-Round After-School and Saturday Camp Language Programs, so campers keep their new language skills active.
Methodology
Language classes represent a major aspect of our language specialty camp. We believe that by exposing the child to the broad environment that the knowledge of a second language and other cultures bring about, he/she is provided with a gift that is an advantage for life, given the global environment in which today´s children will live tomorrow. Other camp activities reinforce language acquisition. Language classes are based on the Natural Approach Theory, which assumes that language is not acquired by traditional grammar and vocabulary lectures. The comprehensible input calls for the incorporation of stimuli representing the different levels of language acquisition; thus avoiding boredom, lack of self-esteem, or high anxiety about speaking the new language. Fluency results from a progression of four natural stages of language acquisition that resembles the same steps children follow when they learn their first language: Reproduction: Children do not speak the language at all. Non-verbal responses are prompted. Early Production: Children are just beginning to speak. One word responses are prompted. Speech Emergence: Children put together short sentences. Intermediate/Advanced Fluency: Children communicate in longer, more complex forms of expression
The way to engage children is to surround them with the new language through multi-sensory techniques (visual, auditory, and physical practice), so they can perceive through all their senses. They will be most motivated when they can see, hear, say, and feel the language. We apply multi-sensory techniques so that they do not only learn in their personal style but also feel thrilled about it. In this way, language acquisition evolves naturally. LinguaSM uses an innovative method that leads to rapid progress. It is interactive and dynamic.
